There’s no I in Team: Why Prema and Aspar pave the way to success

One of the ‘make or breaks’ of a young racers career is the right team.  It’s hard enough getting the funding to even start, but finding a support system who will nurture you to your full potential is essential.

When it comes to Formula 1, that is one thing Prema Racing have done exceptionally well for many years, but it’s not a pathway MotoGP seem to have had…until now. So, is the Aspar Team MotoGP’s equivalent of Prema Racing?

If you take a look across the F1 and MotoGP grids, the number of racers to have passed through their ranks is staggering. In 2026, nine drivers or 40% of the F1 grid is a graduate from the Prema Racing Team in some manner from World Championships to Regionals and even prestigious races such as the Macau Grand Prix. Whilst with MotoGP, in 2027, there will be, Ivan Guevara’s Prima Pramac signing dependent, seven riders or 31% of the MotoGP grid who will have come from the Aspar ranks.

So, what makes both teams so special? The invest in talent from a young age!

Whilst a lot of teams focus solely on World Championship classes, both Prema and Aspar have invested from the ground up, building their athletes from the very beginning to instil knowledge and a work ethic they will carry with them throughout their career. They also invest their time outside of a race weekend in various ways: Aspar regularly have their entire roster training and learning together at their circuit whilst Prema produce some of the best media content and have some of the most charismatic drivers on the grids.

And it’s obviously what they do is working. Even if the drivers or riders don’t come directly from those teams into the Premier class such as Pecco Bagnaia, Jorge Martin and Gabriel Bortoleto, they all reached the top class with a little help from those who saw the budding talent and took a chance to make them the next big thing.

Both teams may have had some years where things don’t seem to go their way but there is no denying that they have helped produced some of the brightest and most talented racers in the world.
